In 2023, as a member of Louise Fletcher’s Art Tribe, we were challenged to send ourselves a postcard from Creativity to remind us why we make our art.
This led to further explorations in my sketchbook about creativity. I was inspired by the distress I felt from an article about how artificial intelligence will increase our artistic productivity. Creativity has never been about speed. Any artist who has ever practiced any art form knows that the process of learning the materials and practicing the technique are the only paths to mastery. This takes time and cannot be rushed. One cannot become an artist by using AI to make the process faster.
We need to remove ourselves from the idea that life is a race to the finish line. Life (and art) is about quality not quantity.
There is no falling behind, because there is no race.
